project management- 4-day course
This 4-day course* incorporates proven project management processes with tools instruction. Each team will use the processes taught in class to build a real business project that participants can bring to class. Using a real business project provides richer and more realistic learning; unlike some courses that use a simple case study like, “bake a cake.”
Processes covered include defining a project (scope, schedule and resources). Project Planning - Participants will learn how to break a project down into manageable components so a project plan can be built. Prior to finalizing the project plan participants will practice techniques for optimizing the project to meet the needs of management. Additionally, the project will be assessed for risks, as well as strategies for risk mitigation. At various places in the process specific/formal management checkpoints will be discussed to assure that the project meets appropriate business requirements. Finally, participants will practice simple and accurate techniques for project tracking.
* The 4th day of this class is an optional day of Microsoft Project training.
Items provided in the workshop include: A participant manual, a manual for project sponsors, a Microsoft Project Template, and, a template in Microsoft Word (this is used to capture project definitions, risks, etc.) The instructor will demonstrate how additional project management tools can be used to enhance the effectiveness of the project planning process (ie: WBS Chart Pro and PERT Chart EXPERT).
